TV presenter Ant McPartlin has made the decision to step down from his television commitments and check back into rehab.
The news comes after the 42-year-old presenter was arrested on Sunday on the suspicion of drink-driving that in a collision involving two other cars.
Following the news, ITV has axed this weekend’s Saturday Night Takeaway and will review their options for the final two episodes of the series.
“ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec’s team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend,” the broadcaster said in a statement. “We will be reviewing options for the last two episodes of the series (March 31 and April 7) which would not feature Ant who is taking time off to seek treatment. We very much hope that he gets the help that he needs.”
The Sun has reported Ant will be off television for the rest of the year. That means he will miss the live shows of Britain’s Got Talent and the next series of I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here!, two shows he co-hosts with partner and friend Declan Donnelly.
Ant previously spent two months in rehab last year for painkiller and alcohol addiction. He checked out of rehab and returned to front I’m A Celebrity in November with Dec, making it one of the happier moments for the two pals in recent months.
Ant and Dec just recently were voted TV’s best entertainment presenters at the National Television Awards in January for the 17th straight year.
As of this writing, no decision has been made about the upcoming series of “BGT” as to what Dec will do or what decision ITV will make regarding the hosting duties for live shows.
