Arnold Schwarzenegger is terminating himself from any future seasons of ‘The New Celebrity Apprentice’ and he is blaming Donald Trump.
The former California Governor hosted just one season and made the official announcement on Friday. It is likely that Schwarzenegger is quitting before the show is canceled, with ratings at a all-time low.
“I loved every second of working with NBC and Mark Burnett,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. “Everyone — from the celebrities to the crew to the marketing department — was a straight 10, and I would absolutely work with all of them again on a show that doesn’t have this baggage.”
Ratings for the season were low, 1.3 rating among adults 18-to-49 and a total of 4.9 million viewers. However, Trump’s involvement in the show seems to be one of the reason for low numbers.
The now-President kept his name as Executive Producer and five of the shows 12 sponsors have said they will not renew their contracts for any future seasons if Trump’s name is still linked to the show.
“With Trump being involved in the show, people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show,’ Schwarzenegger said in an interview with Empire. ‘It’s a very divisive period now and I think this show got caught up in all that division.”
NBC has not announced if they will renew or cancel the show, but things do not look good. Combined with low numbers and sponsors Tyra Beauty, Lorissa’s Kitchen, Los Angeles Clippers, QVC and the Carnival Corporation all pulling out, it looks like season 15 will be its last.
We’ll be waiting for Mr. Trump’s tweet on the matter…
