The wait is finally over, the BBC have unveiled the 6 hopefuls which the public will vote for to represent us at the Eurovision Song Contest!
Today in in conjunction with Radio 2 the BBC have revealed the six songs that have made it into our UK selection show Eurovision: You Decide!
Radio host Ken Bruce’s revealed the tracks one by one from 9.30am on air.
This year’s competition will be held in Stockholm after Mans Zelmerlow won the competition in Denmark with his song Heroes.
Take a look at the hopeful acts, and hear their songs below…
Joe and Jake – You’re Not Alone
Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft are hoping to win your vote to represent the United Kingdom at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden
The singing pair both appeared on last year’s The Voice as separate acts but have decided to team up to win it for the UK.
Their song You’re Not Alone is an up-tempo more modern sound and has been widely praised on Twitter after just one broadcast.
Before teaming up with Jake, Joe worked in his former high school as a physical education assistant. He was selected by Rita Ora for a place on her team in last year’s The Voice.
Meanwhile, Jake was picked by will.i.am after he quit his job at a garden centre and dropped out of college to try his hand at music full time.
Bianca – Shine a Light
Bianca Claxton is a 25-year-old singer from Nottingham who was previously part of a girl group Parade.
A classically trained soprano and cellist, Bianca supported the likes of Shakira and The Black Eyed Peas on tour in the UK and now she’s taking her chances on representing the UK in Stockholm.
She is a massive fan of Eurovision and it’s been her dream to represent the UK.
Her song was co-written by the X Factor’s biggest ever winning success story, Leona Lewis.
Dulcima and Tom – When You Go
Dulcima Showan, 23, met songwriter Tomas Twyman, 27 when they were both busking together on the streets of Canterbury.
Dulcima is a classical violinist who loves to play folk.
They will both be performing the original song penned by Tom in the hope of representing the UK in Sweden.
Their song is about ‘having courage when you lose someone special.’Tom taught himself to sing when he was 15, whereas Dulcima started as a baby!
Matthew James – A Better Man
A recognisable face, Matthew James previously had a brush with fame as part of nineties boyband Bad Boys Inc, and their hit single More To This World.
Matthew now 44 lives in South London and has continued singing for the last 15 years with the band Madhen.
The singer wants to take part in Eurovision because “you can be whoever you want to be on it.”
If Matthew does win, he’ll be performing live on his birthday… and if he doesn’t “crying at home!”.
Darline – Until Tomorrow
One of the most well received songs on Twitter, Darline’s indie track Until Tomorrow hopes to represent us in Sweeden.
The duo are made of Cara, 18 from Stevenage and Abby, 20 from Worcestershire. Their song is about “living in the moment.”
The girls have previously supported country band The Shires.
They say their musical influences are Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson.
Karl WIlliam Lund – Miracle
Track ‘Miracle’ was written & co-produced by Karl himself and produced by Ben Haynes.
Swedish pop producer and mixing engineer Jonas Westling (Credits: Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Usher, Rihanna) came on board to add his magic to the song too.
Karl stated himself that it’s time for the UK to ‘get serious’ about Eurovision.
“It is time the UK got serious once again about Eurovision and I have poured every ounce of passion and love into ‘Miracle’ to try and make it a true contender for that stage in Stockholm.”
The song’s inspiration is Karl’s brother in law surviving his cancer battle.
