Little Mix and David Bowie were the big winners at this year’s Brit Awards.
The ceremony, broadcast live on ITV from the O2 Arena London saw the biggest stars from British music celebrate the last 12 months.
X Factor winners Little Mix won their first Brit award for Best Single during the ceremony.
“We honestly didn’t know where to go, we didn’t think we’d win it,” said Jade Thirlwall. “We were just sitting there chin-wagging. This is for all our exes.”
David Bowie won a posthumous award for Best British Solo Male Artist as well as collecting the top accolade of Best Album for Blackstar.
Bowie’s son Duncan Jones accepted the award, telling the crowd: “I lost my dad last year but I also became a dad.”
Speaking about his father, he said: “He’s always been there supporting people who are a little bit weird, a little bit strange, a little bit different. This award is for all the kooks, and the people who make the kooks.”
There were impressive performances from Ed Sheeran, with a surprise duet from Stormzy duet and Chris Martin’s tribute to the late George Michael.
Emeli Sandé was crowned Best British Female Solo artist, taking her sister up on stage with her.
The 1975 were named Best British Band, adding in their speech: “At the moment a lot of people in pop music and the public in general are told to ‘stay in your lane’ but if you have a platform don’t do that, please don’t do that,” frontman Matt Healy said.
“This is mental, we’ve been the same line up since we were 13-years-old, so this kind of thing doesn’t really happen.”
Louis Tomlinson was the only member of One Direction on hand to pick up the Best Video Award.
Robbie Williams closed the show after picking up the Icon Award too.
