Dalton Harris has been crowned the winner of The X Factor 2018, beating out Anthony Russell and Scarlett Lee to take home the title.
Sunday’s grand final saw the final three perform one more time as they took to the stage to sing their winner’s single with some famous faces. Anthony performed with The Kaiser Chiefs, Scarlett with Leona Lewis, and Dalton with X Factor 2011 winner James Arthur.
“Singing alongside this guy, I had to show up,” Arthur said after the performance. “One of the reasons I got involved tonight was because of him. Years to come people will be clamouring to work with this guy.”
After performances from Ellie Goulding and Take That (with Robbie Williams joining in), host Dermot O’Leary returned for the big result. Anthony finished in third place, which was no surprise. He then revealed to the 10,000 people and millions of viewers at home Dalton was the winner.
The Jamaican was left speechless by the result, unable to speak. Judge Louis Tomlinson spoke on his behalf and praised the 24-year-old.
“He’s been such a pleasure to work with, a true gentleman,” he said.
Dalton finally able to speak said: “I just won The X Factor.”
The 24-year-old vocalist won a recording contract with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Music as well as his single – a cover of The Power of Love with Arthur will now go on sale. Early projections have it the favourite to be Christmas No. 1.
The X Factor returns to ITV in 2019 for its 16th series.
