Fifth Harmony band member Lauren Jauregui has come out as bisexual, the singer herself has confirmed.
She made the revelation in an open letter to Donald Trump supporters, where she condemned them for electing him president despite his past remarks.
“I am a bisexual Cuban-American woman and I am so proud of it,” the 20-year-old said. “I am proud to be part of a community that only projects love and education and the support of one another. “To every single Trump supporter … Your words are worthless, because your actions have led to the single-handed destruction of all the progress we’ve made socially as a nation.”
The revelation comes a week after a photo went viral of Jauregui kissing another girl, with most thinking its Lucy Vives.
“If I could tell every Trump supporter two things, it would be to travel and read a history book. Look beyond yourselves, look at how petty the morals you uphold seem when you realize we are not the only ones,” she continued. “None of us belong here but all of us deserve the right to feel safe and live our lives in peace. To not have to worry about potentially dying, or being electro-shocked, or beaten, or raped, or emotionally abused because our existence and/or choices for ourselves upset someone else. This is the world Trump is fostering.”
After the news of Lauren’s letter went public, the 20-year-old took to Twitter to show her gratitude and thank her fans for the support.
Lauren has been met with support from fans since the news of the letter broke, but has yet to take the stage since coming out.
Fifth Harmony is scheduled to perform their single That’s My Girl at the American Music Awards this Sunday.
