Former Coronation Street actress Amanda Barrie has reportedly signed up for the winter series of Celebrity Big Brother 2018, which is set to launch in just a few weeks.
Barrie is best known for her role as Alma Halliwell in the ITV soap opera before she quit in 2001. More recently, she has joined the cast of Benidorm as Psychic Sue.
A source told The Sun: “We really wanted someone who had lived a long, full life to contribute something different to the usual mix of housemates.
“And there’s no doubt Amanda is outspoken – she wasn’t even supposed to have said anything about appearing on CBB, but couldn’t keep it a secret.”
If she does indeed going into the Big Brother house, Amanda would be one of the oldest contestants in show history at 82 years old.
Earlier, Channel 5 confirmed that an all-women launch show would feature female contestants on the opener and include no males in the audience or on Bit On The Side. Men would be entering the series later on.
The move has left some fans wondering how far the broadcaster would take the twist.
Other names rumoured for the series include The Apprentice’s Elizabeth McKenna, Goggleboxer Sandra Martin, and US R&B star Ginuwine.
Celebrity Big Brother 2018 launches January 2 on Channel 5 at 9pm.
