It’s not good news for Bake Off fans. The Great British Bake Off 2016 start date has been delayed.
The seventh series of The Great British Bake Off won’t be back on our screens until at least the end of August because of Olympics.
Bake Off fans will have to wait a little longer to see Mary Berry and gang back on screens, with the sporting event taking precedent.
According to early reports, the launch date could be around the last week of August, possibly on Wednesday August 24 or August 31.
However there is a potential it will be pushed even later to September.
But, once it is back. They’ll be more than enough Bake Off fix with the BBC confirming that Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue will get into the festive spirit with two festive specials of The Great Christmas Bake Off.
Each episode will welcome back four bakers from a past series and ask them to take on Christmas festive challenges.
It could also be the final series on the BBC. According to the Radio Times, GBBO’s future on the BBC is looking seriously “wobbly”.
“It could be on Sky if they can’t agree a number soon,” a source told the magazine.
“(Production Company) Love’s other programming deals with the BBC, which include The Great British Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throw Down, are also at risk.”
ITV and Channel 4 are both supposedly in a ‘bidding war’ however the BBC’s current deal is understood to include a “cooling off” clause which mean Bake Off couldn’t air for at least another year.
Bake Off 2016 will return to BBC One in the summer.
