Greg O’Shea was secretly allowed to leave the Love Island villa to return home and attend his grandmother’s funeral, it’s been revealed today.
The 24-year-old was flown back home away from his islanders to Dublin to be with his family on Monday, before he returned to Mallorca later that night.
Dad Niall O’Shea told Limerick Live 95: ‘Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well.’
A Love Island spokesperson added: ‘Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral. Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa.’
It was confirmed Monica Ho (née Finlay) from Raheen, Limerick ‘passed away peacefully on 19th July 2019, in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.’
It has not been revealed if any production escorted him, or whether he was allowed to discuss the outside world with his friends and family.
Greg is now one of the favourites to win the £50,000 prize since becoming coupled up with Amber Gill.
Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV.
