Zara Larsson is your new favourite popstar.
She won Swedish talent competition Talang back in 2008, with her performance of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ being watched over 14 million times on YouTube.
She went quiet for a bit after her win (probably because she was ten at the time), but made a comeback in 2013 with the ballad ‘Uncover’ (it sounds a little bit like the Emeli Sande version of ‘Read All About It’). That went on to be a Top 10 hit across Europe.
She released an album last year, as well as an EP in the UK. Both include the impossibly good ‘Rooftop’, a mid-tempo electro-pop jam about really fancying someone at a rooftop barbecue, which is about to be shut down by police.
You may also know her as ‘the girl who put her foot in a condom and put it on Instagram’. She writes her own blog too, and wrote a great piece about Caitlyn Jenner.
Anyway, she’s back with new single ‘Lush Life’, which may just be the best one yet.
The track has a cool house vibe to it, but the melody is still as strong as you’d expect from a Swedish pop song. It doesn’t sound too dissimilar to Years & Years, and it deserves to be as massive as ‘King’.
The song itself is about living for today and not settling for someone who you don’t really fancy, which is a nice twist on the ‘love yourself’ anthem.
In the video, Zara proves why she should be the biggest popstar in the world; oozing star quality and *Louis Walsh voice* ‘swagger’. There’s a really nice sequin bomber jacket too, and some really great hair whipping (which does make a popstar great).
