As Season 4 of The Flash gets closer to its finale, Tuesday night’s episode quietly set things up for the impending showdown between Team Flash and Clifford DeVoe.
Last week, Team Flash found out the enlightenment that DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) was planning would release so much dark matter, reducing everyone’s brains to a simplified state, Barry (Grant Gustin) went to an unlikely source for help in Tuesday’s hour.
Team Flash tracks down old foe Amunet Black (Katee Sackhoff), wanting her mental shards to destroy the five satellites that DeVoe will be using to make the enlightenment happen. Barry, Joe, and Caitlin track her down and after some discussion, she agrees to help them. But Joe realizes that Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) had other motives for wanting Amunet’s help. She wanted their foe to help her bring Killer Frost back to life.
Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, the team realizes that Amunet’s shards had been stolen and they quickly put together it was her former partner Norvock. The Flash and Amunet track down the location of the sale and get into a shootout with his crew. Joe and Caitlin team up to stop the sale and Barry stops Amunet from killing her former partner.
Amunet then gets her shards back but not before giving the team a ball of her shards to use as a projectile bomb against DeVoe’s satellites. She also had parting words for Caitlin, telling her that Killer Frost is still inside her and she needs to use her mind to bring her out again.
Elsewhere in the episode, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) brings back the Council of Wells to help Harry (Tom Cavanagh) reverse the effects from the Thinking Cap and restore his intelligence. Harry finds out that he has been let go from the Council because he is no longer as smart as he was. So Cisco calls a few of the ‘rejected’ members.
The end of the episode saw two major developments happen. Thanks to the help, Harry realizes DeVoe’s entire reason for the enlightenment is all for his wife Marlize, meaning she could be the key to defeating DeVoe.
The biggest development of all was Iris (Candice Patton) wanting to inform the public of the threat that DeVoe poses. After Barry agrees to let her publish an article on her blog and it turns out the plan worked. Thousands of comments poured it of DeVoe sightings around the city, meaning he can not go around freely as he once did.
The Flash airs Tuesday’s on The CW in the US.
