Simon Cowell lost his first act of this X Factor series after Jack and Joel became the fifth act to be eliminated from the singing competition on Saturday night.
The duo were voted into the live shows as a wildcard, but failed to win over the public with their rendition of Wham’s! “The Edge Of Heaven”. Two of Simon’s acts were in the bottom as Sean and Connor Price joined Jack and Joel in danger.
‘It’s the one week where we love the song and I said to Dermot ‘We’re going on this one’,” Jack said following the pairs elimination.
“We’ve had the best time, everybody has been phenomenal.”
His friend Joel told Dermot: “We’re still discovering who we are as artists and we’ve had the best journey.”
Saturday night saw the first of two night’s dedicated to British icon, the late George Michael. The final 12 acts performed covers of songs to pay tribute to the legend and at the end of the night, it was time to crown the champion of the night.
For the second straight week, Nicole’s act Kevin Davy White topped the vote. Kevin will now fight against the Sunday night champion in this weekend’s prize fight, a chance to open for Little Mix in their arena tour.
The X Factor continues on Sunday night with the Girls and Boys battling it out on ITV at 7:25pm.
