Ex-The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex has vowed to give up selfie as part of a new campaign.
The star has revealed he’ll give them up for “at least a month” as holidaymakers said tourists taking pictures of themselves was among their top holiday bugbears.
The Essex star stated he made the decision as his obsession was taking over his life and annoying all his friends.
Joey has become the latest name to join a campaign by mobile phone company Three to encourage people to swap the selfie for pictures of landscapes and friends – dubbed the “Frontie”.
“I’m a selfie addict,” he said. “The problem with them is I don’t remember any of these places because I’ve realised all my photos are just selfies.
“Let’s banish the duck pouts, do away with the bathroom selfies, throw out those dangerous selfie sticks.
“The holiday selfie is dead guys, and Three are making it their mission to bring back the holiday frontie.”
Joey’s selfie sacrifice comes as a survey by Three revealed that tourists taking selfies is now considered as annoying as crying babies on passenger planes.
When asked what was their biggest holiday bugbear, almost a quarter (21%) of those polled said selfie taking.
Almost half of the 2000 people polled said they “hated” selfie sticks and nearly half (44% of Brits) admitted they think it’s right that some tourist attractions across the globe have banned them.
Phone network Three conducted the research into the nation’s holiday frustrations, as part of the launching 24 new destinations – including Germany, Greece and Portugal – into its Feel at Home free roaming service in September.
The service means people can share their photos at no extra cost in even more locations around the world.
