Reality star Megan McKenna has been crowned the winner of The X Factor: Celebrity in the shows grand final on Saturday night, taking home the coveted recording contract.
Saturday’s final saw the top four battle it out for the chance to advance to the top three and sing their final song of the series. In the first round, the acts sang Christmas themed songs for the public vote, which was frozen after the songs were sung.
After a performance from the Pussycat Dolls, host Dermot O’Leary returned and revealed girl band V5 finished in fourth place. This left Megan, Jenny, and Max and Harvey to fight for the title. The final three then sang their favourite song of the series, with Megan singing her original song “This”.
Dermot returned with the big result and announced Megan had won the series, taking home a record contract with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco.
“Thank you so much,” a shocked Megan said after her win. “I’m living my dream and I can’t even explain how excited I am! Just thank you!”
While Dermot did not announce the final three’s placement, ITV released the voting stats after the show had ended.
Megan – 46.3%
Max and Harvey – 27.1%
Jenny – 21.2%
V5 – 4.2%
The first (and quite possibly only) series of The X Factor: Celebrity was not without controversy. Weekly changes to the format and odd rule changes resulted in the lowest-rated series to date. While there is no news of a second series, X Factor: The Band is around the corner as Simon and Nicole Scherzinger begin their search for the next big boy or girl band.
The X Factor: The Band begins 9 December at 8:30 pm on ITV with host Dermot O’Leary.
