Mel B will not be leaving the judge’s desk on America’s Got Talent when the show returns in the winter for its first-ever spin-off run.
The Sun is reporting that the former Spice Girl has signed a deal to be a judge on the upcoming run of America’s Got Talent: The Champions, which is set to premiere in January.
The news comes after a report surfaced a few weeks ago that Mel’s current contract with the show ends in October and she was unaware if she would be asked back for another season. Mel has been on the panel since 2013.
“This deal could not have come at a better time,” a source told the publication. “The cash injection gives her time to try resolving these legal problems.”
The publication also reports the deal is likely worth $1.7 million.
NBC was reportedly considering making changes to the panel for the spinoff run but show boss and judge Simon Cowell insisted that Mel’s involvement was “essential” to the success of the winter run.
Official confirmation of the judge’s as well as a premiere date for the winter run will be announced later this year.
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC in the US and streams on Netflix in the UK. The Judge Cuts round continues on Tuesday night.
