Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen is set to reveal he is HIV-positive during a live interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show, according to reports.
In a press release on Monday, NBC has said Sheen will be making a “revealing personal announcement” on the show. It is expected Sheen will be going into details about the HIV-positive status.
The star has been open about his past, admitting to soliciting prostitutes and “call girls” in the past. Numerous tabloids and websites are also reporting the health of the 50-year-old actor is said to be the subject of the interview.
Gossip website TMZ alleges Sheen has ‘known about his status for over a year’ and reportedly several of his partners have threatened a lawsuit after not knowing of his status when they were with him.
That led to several of Charlie’s former partners contacting him and threatening a lawsuit because they were unaware of his status when they had interaction with him. Our sources say Charlie settled several of the cases and, in return for money, got confidentiality agreements.
Three weeks ago, RadarOnline reported a Hollywood celebrity has been living with a shocking secret, but did not reveal the name. Sheen seems to fit the profile of the report.
Sheen left the CBS comedy Two and a Half Men after eight seasons and has not been seen on television since his FX series Anger Management was canceled in 2014 after 100 episodes.
UPDATED: Charlie Sheen has confirmed to The Today Show that he is HIV positive and has known for roughly four years.
In Sheen’s sit down interview on The Today Show, he confirmed the news that he has been HIV-positive for the past four years and some people whom he trusted demanded money from him to keep his secret.
“I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV-positive,” Sheen told NBC’s Matt Lauer. “And I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about the alleged threatening the health of so many others, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.”
Sheen went on to say he does not know how he contracted the virus, but he has told every sexual partner of his condition. He revealed his condition to his inner circle, but some of those people demanded money from the actor to keep his secret.
One of those people was a prostitute who took a cell phone photo of Sheen’s medication and threatened to tell the world unless he paid her.
Sheen’s Dr. Robert Huizenga was asked if the actor has AIDS and gave a direct answer.
“Charlie does not have AIDS,” Huizenga said. “AIDS is a condition where the HIV virus markedly suppresses the immune system and you are susceptible to rare, difficult cancers and infections. Charlie has none of those. He is healthy; he does not have AIDS.”
