With more changes coming this autumn and a revamped format, The X Factor judging panel will look different once again.
Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field will not be returning to the show after just one series on the judging panel, the pair announced on Friday morning via an Instagram post.
The statement came from both Robbie and Ayda, who said in part they don’t have time to do another series of the show due to clashing work commitments.
“Sadly as it’s impossible to do everything, we’re gutted to tell you we won’t be able to return to The X Factor this year,” Robbie wrote on Instagram.

A quick update from Team Williams… it’s been a very busy year so far. Vegas has been incredible and we cannot wait for June and July to do it all again. I’ve got the massive @BSTHydePark show on July 14 and I’ve written the lyrics and music for the #RSCBoyInDress show with @guyachambers – opening on November 8. As well as all this we’ve got some very big announcements coming soon – but we can’t reveal all yet. Sadly though it’s impossible to do everything … and we’re gutted to tell you we won’t be able to return to The X Factor this year. We will, however, be working on projects with Simon going forward – and as huge fans of the show, we will still be tuning into The X Factor, voting and winding Simon up…x
The news comes after the latest series of the show finished with its worst viewing figures in 14 years. The announcement also has given bosses to fear Louis Tomlinson may not return to the panel for the new series following his reveal show boss Simon Cowell has not called him yet.
“He hasn’t called me yet,” Louis said. “I had an amazing experience on the show last year, but if it’s going to get in the way of my mission for this year, which is releasing the album, then it’s probably going to be less likely.”
Cowell got backlash for pegging Ayda as a judge as she had no background whatsoever in the music industry. He defended his decision despite fans never really connecting with her on the show. This reportedly led to clashes with Simon and Ayda.
Simon is planning to ditch regular auditions and do an all-star version with celebrities with possibly a whole new panel.
The X Factor returns to ITV later this year.
