Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field are reportedly set to join The X Factor judging panel in a £10 million deal.
According to The Sun, Williams and his wife are joining Simon Cowell at the judge’s desk, replacing Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger. The tabloid also claims that the pair is ready to sign on the dotted line on their contracts.
Social media blasted the news of Ayda joining the panel due to her lack of experience in the music industry. However, the source says her music experience is being married to Robbie.
“She thinks doing the show with Robbie will be a lot of fun,” a show source told The Mirror. “Particularly as she wants to beat her husband at his own game. She can’t wait to get started.”
“The hope is that the deal is days away from being signed and announced.”
The pair has been married since 2009 after being introduced to each other three years earlier. Robbie would become the second member from Take That to join the panel after Gary Barlow was on for two series in 2011.
Ayda is best known for her acting in the US on soap opera Days Of Our Lives. Since 2006, she has been a regular panelist on talk show Loose Women. She is close friends with Cowell’s girlfriend Sarah Silverman.
Robbie and Ayda would become the first husband and wife to sit at the judge’s desk in X Factor history.
Last week, ITV confirmed a new generation of X Factor judges would be coming. Louis Walsh is not returning to the panel, while Sharon Osbourne is only returning to the panel for live shows as a special fifth judge.
If Robbie and Ayda sign on, it would leave just one more spot on the panel. Speculation says Louis Tomlinson would be the choice for Simon.
The X Factor returns to ITV later this year.
