Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas was crowned the winner of the summer edition of Celebrity Big Brother 2018 in Monday night’s live final.
The 34-year-old beat out Hollywood actress Kirstie Alley in the final showdown to take the win. TOWIE’s Dan Osborne, broker Nick Leeson, TV psychic Sally Morgan, and Love Island’s Gabby Allen finished third to sixth respectively.
Ryan exited the house to a chorus of cheers from the packed studio crowd. He sat down for his interview with host Emma Willis about his win and time in the house.
“I have no words,” he said of his win. “No words whatsoever, I don’t know what to say.”
The theme of the series was “Eye of the Storm” and Ryan found himself in the middle of an almighty hurricane that had the entire country talking about the series. Yes, we are talking about “Punchgate” with Roxanne Pallett.
Emma showed Ryan the clips we’ve all seen and then asked him about his thoughts on the situation.
“It was totally unexpected,” he answered. “It was a sign of affection that I’ve used on Gabby, the boys. And unexpected because there was nothing in it and as it unraveled, as it became bigger and bigger, the thing that scared me the most was when Ben said she couldn’t stay in the room with me because she was scared. That rang alarm bells. Then the game became real life for me. I did break. I was a scared little boy. I just wanted out.”
Emma apologised to Ryan if any of his time was hindered because of the incident that occurred but then asked him if he could forgive her. His answer showed the reason the public voted him as the winner.
“If she [Roxanne] wants sort of forgiveness and it makes her feel better then I would rather give her that because I think she’s been punished enough by the public and the people around her,” he said.
Elsewhere, Kristie finished second and because of that is the most successful female American celebrity in the 22-year history of the celebrity spin-off.
Emma asked her what she learned from her time in the house and what she found the most surprising.
The fact that I lived in a room with 13 strangers,” Kirstie said. “It made me stronger, and a better person. I made a lot of good friends.”
Big Brother 2018 launches on Friday at 9 pm on Channel 5.
