Shipwrecked is set to return to Channel 4 ‘after the success of Love Island’ for a second revival.
Channel 4 is said to be working on a new version of Shipwrecked for 2019 after the success of ITV 2’s Love Island
The reality show first aired in 2000 and sees members of the public left on a dessert island. The show was last on air seven years ago when it was revived.
“Lots of people have fond memories of watching Shipwrecked in their youth and dreaming about joining the fun in paradise,” a source said today.
Speaking to The Sun they added: “Now Channel 4 have decided to give millennials the same experience, after Love Island proved sun-kissed hunks and beauties frolicking in a tropical setting can result in huge ratings.”
“On Shipwrecked, the biggest hardship the castaways faced was getting tan lines.”
Shipwrecked originally launched in 2000, with 16 contestants dropped on the Cook Islands in the pacific. Only seven remained 68 days later but there was no prize!
In 2006 however the show was brought back titled ‘Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands’.
Split into two teams, the contestants had to choose which island to join and nominate each other to switch islands.
At the end of the run the islands with the most members won £100,000.
Love Island returns to ITV 2 this summer.
