Auditions for Britain’s Got Talent continued on Saturday night and one act, in particular, impressed judge Simon Cowell so much that he sent them straight into the live shows.
The final act of the evening was comedian Kojo Anim, who has worked with Kevin Hart and Chris Rock in the past and wants to make a name for himself.
“Being a comic has its ups and downs,” Anim said prior to his audition. “One day you’re performing in front of a thousand people and then ten people one day. Everything I’ve done has been me getting ready for this opportunity.”
Anim performed a hilarious set with jokes about his father to everyday problems like banks having one teller window open and the cashier’s microphones being too loud. He received a standing ovation and praise from judges Alisha Dixon and David Walliams.
“You made everyone laugh,” Walliams said. “You’ve got all the bases covered as a comedian. You’re likable, you’re fantastic. I think you did yourself proud today.”
But it was the head judge who had the biggest praise for the struggling comic.
“What was quite amazing is I felt you were nervous,” said Simon. “Then I could see the audience react to you and you reacted to them. But I’m going, to be honest with you, I really don’t like comedians on this show.”
“But I love you,” Simon continued, hitting the golden buzzer.
As the confetti rained down on the stage, Simon went up to meet Kojo, telling him: “You were so funny and so unpredictable. This is the break you’ve been waiting for, I could not be happier for you.”
Kojo joins David Walliams’ Golden Buzzer act Flakefleet Primary School as the second act in the live shows later this year.
Britain’s Got Talent airs Saturday’s at 8 pm on ITV.
