Simon Cowell will miss the first live show of The X Factor tonight after a fall down the stairs sent him to the hospital.
The 58-year-old judge was seen wearing a neck brace and on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance yesterday morning at 7:30am. It is reported that Cowell fell down the stairs after getting some hot milk to help him fall asleep.
Cowell returned to his London mansion around 4pm and spoke with reporters saying: “I fainted and fell down the stairs. I’ve got a bit of concussion. I feel better now.”
The news means Simon will miss tonight’s X Factor live show, the first of the series. This has caused some shuffling as his category The Groups will now perform on Sunday night along with Nicole Scherzinger’s Overs.
Moving to Saturday’s show are Louis Walsh’s Boys and Sharon Osbourne’s Girls.
“Simon is expected to be fine for Sunday’s show, but right now he needs as much rest as possible – every one knows he’s a workaholic and no one can stop him from returning,” a source told The Sun.
Cowell confirmed the news himself to The Daily Mail on the front steps of his home, saying: “I will be back but I don’t know about tomorrow”.
In July, Simon missed part of the audition process due to an illness. The last judge to miss a live show was Mel B in 2015 when she missed the first night of the final at Wembley. She was replaced by Tulisa Contostavlos on the panel.
As of this writing, there is nothing confirmed if there will be a replacement judge for Simon tonight.
“There were some rumours that Cheryl was going to step in for Simon but this isn’t going to be the case,” the source said.
The X Factor continues tonight and Sunday with the first live shows of the series.
