You won’t see Simon Cowell on the new version of American Idol when it returns to ABC in 2018.
Cowell told Extra he has no interest in joining the revamped version of the show that put his name on the map in America.
“I was asked to do it, and the answer is no,” Cowell, 57, told Extra on Thursday. “I have no interest. My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula [Abdul]. You can’t re-create that.”
The 57-year-old was the judge on the original version of ‘Idol’ for eight seasons from 2002 to 2010.
Reaction to the return of the show have been mixed as it has only been off the air for just a year. With former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe saying it is too early for the show to return to the air.
“They got their wish, but it feels a little too soon to bring it back,” he said.
Reports are suggesting that Ryan Seacrest is ‘in talks’ to return as the host for the new version. ABC was also wanting to get Kelly Clarkson on as a judge, but she will be heading to The Voice in 2018.
