Simon Cowell says he was shocked Nick Cannon quit as host of America’s Got Talent, but welcomes Tyra Banks with open arms as she tries to fill Cannon’s shoes.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight online, the creator of the ‘Got Talent’ series said he did not know much of what was going on with Cannon and his situation with NBC.
“I didn’t know that Nick wasn’t going to be on the show until about two or three weeks before we started filming, and no one told me about this stuff,” he said. “Anyway, it happened. I spoke to him, I thought he was going to come back but he wasn’t – then he was, wasn’t – and then in the end, we decided to start filming without him.”
Banks will replace Cannon for the upcoming 12th season and seems to be settling in nicely. According to reports, the America’s Next Top Model host is looking to change public perception that she is a diva.
“The hardest thing is when you’re trying to replace someone who has been really good, and you don’t want someone who’s going to be the same kind of personality,” Cowell said. “She’s funny, she gets it. From what I’ve seen so far, I think she is having a good time.”
We’ll see how much Shmize Banks will bring this summer..
