America’s Got Talent: The Champions is in full swing across the pond and Monday night’s episode saw Simon Cowell make his most controversial Golden Buzzer choice ever.
Midway through the episode, dance group Boogie Storm from Britain’s Got Talent 2016 made their debut on the American stage. They performed a mashup of “Pretty Fly” and “Bang Bang” for the audience, getting them on their feet.
Judge Howie Mandel was in charge of the Golden Buzzer this week, allowing him to send one act through to the finals. Mandel and fellow judges Alesha Dixon and Heidi Klum were not impressed with the act.
“I think you are really good dancers,” Klum remarked. “But this is going to get old really quick.”
Simon tried to sway Howie to hit the Golden Buzzer for the act but he put his foot down and said no. This didn’t sit well with the music mogul as he reached across the desk and slammed the buzzer, sending a shocked Boogie Storm into the finals. The decision shocked his fellow judges and host Terry Crews.
“I believe the Dark Side is the good side,” Cowell said. “Boogie Storm is “one of the most original acts we’ve ever had.”
Along with Boogie Storm, BGT finalist Marc Spelmann aka X, Marcelito Pomoy, and Ryan Niemiller advanced to the finals.
America’s Got Talent: The Champions airs Mondays on NBC and streams on Netflix in the UK.
