Susan Boyle was the first confirmed act for Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions but now it looks like things have changed for the 58-year-old singer.
The Sun first broke the story and other reports have now stated Boyle has pulled herself from competiting in the spinoff show, which is set to begin filming on Wednesday, over a packed schedule filled with several touring dates.
“Susan’s had a busy year with her ten year anniversary plans, she’s got a packed schedule, a source told the tabloid. “She was excited to be asked to take part in the show, but has got so much on she doesn’t know if she can make it work.”
The news comes after Boyle competed on America’s Got Talent: The Champions earlier this year and made the finals. She made her return to the Britain’s Got Talent stage this year during auditions to sing “I Dreamed A Dream” 10 years on the day of her first ever audition.
“She’s done America’s Got Talent: The Champions and has dropped her eighth studio album Ten — it’s been non-stop,” the source added.
It was also revealed that dance act Diversity will also not be taking part in the spin-off. The group won the show back in 2009, defeating Susan in the final two.
“Who would have thought ten years ago when we won BGT we would be preparing for our biggest tour yet, Born Ready,” Ashley Banjo said. “While we are unable to take part, we wish all the acts the best of luck.”
Boyle has sold over 20 million albums and will be busy doing anniversary tours around the UK and even heading back to the states.
“Susan has a busy year ahead with lots of performances coming up, trips to the US, headlining BBC Proms in September, as well as preparing for her upcoming tour,” a spokesperson for the singer said. “She loved being part of AGT Champions and, whether she is able to make it or not, wishes the contestants taking part on BGT Champions the best of luck.”
While the final lineup has not been confirmed by ITV, other acts rumoured to take part include Paul Potts, Stavros Flatley, knife-swallower Alex Magala, and comedian Vicky Barbolak.
Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions airs later this year on ITV.
