Oxford graduate Dan Callaghan has become the first to be given his marching orders by Lord Sugar in the first task of The Apprentice 2015.
Describing himself as bright, optimistic and cheerful, he cited himself as turning his fragrance company around after a difficult few years as the business achievement he is most proud of.
However, it seems he couldn’t turn around enough of a profit to impress Lord Sugar, with his team, named Team Connexus, making a profit of only £1.89.
Project manager April Jackson brought Dan and fellow contestant Brett Butler-Smythe back into the board room, however it was Dan who eventually got the boot after explaining to Lord Sugar “selling isn’t my strong point”.
Lord Sugar’s right hand aide, Karen Brady, criticised the team for not having the right ingredients and then missing the lunchtime trade because of the delays in the kitchen.
Brett complained that he worked to the recipe, however Brady complained he didn’t “use his brain.” after creating only 89 fish cakes, with 300 expected.
Lord Sugar was also surprised to find that throughout the whole task Dan didn’t sell one product, helping to affirm his decision that Dan was the first to be fired.
After leaving the boardroom, Dan stated his fellow contestants should “watch their banks in the future!” for his business success.
The Apprentice returns tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One with another contestant being fired.
