She’s got talent!
Tyra Banks has been named the new host of ‘America’s Got Talent’, replacing Nick Cannon for the upcoming 12th season, NBC announced.
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible,” Banks said in a statement. “I love how AGT brings that feeling into everyone’s home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true. I look forward to connecting with the dreamers, having fun and giving hugs and words of encouragement when needed. And maybe I’ll get one or two performers to smize for the audience!”
Banks will join judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell for the 12th season when it premieres this summer. She will take over hosting duties from Cannon, who left after eight seasons for allegedly being threatened by NBC over an AGT- and NBC-related racial joke.
“Tyra is the complete package: Out-of-this-world talented, funny, brilliant and all heart,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and reality group at NBC Entertainment in a statement. “In whatever she has done, she has always connected with audiences around the world. Her vivacious spirit will infuse ‘AGT’ in a big way.”
Banks hosted and produced America’s Next Top Model for 22 seasons and co-hosted daytime syndicated show FabLife, but it was canceled after three months. She continues to produce ‘Top Model’ despite it being hosted by Rita Ora on VH1.
“Welcome to the America’s Got Talent family, Tyra! This is really exciting,” said Cowell, executive producer, judge and creator of the Got Talent format.
America’s Got Talent begins filming for season 12 this week with the premiere scheduled for this summer on NBC.
