Will.i.am has landed himself in hot water with The Voice UK bosses after posting a video of his act’s performance hours before tonight’s live show.
The music producer is said to left bosses furious after he decided to share Nxt Gen’s track “Embrace” on iTunes and YouTube just hours before they perform it on tonight’s live semifinal.
The ITV show has strict rules about giving acts an unfair advantage and bosses ordered Will to remove the video at once despite him making the video and starring it in with the boys.
“Will was so excited the boys are performing a song he made with them so posted a link to download it on iTunes and even put it up on YouTube,” a source told The Sun. “Voice bosses hit the roof when they found out and immediately ordered him to remove everything.”
The American music producer took to his Instagram and apologised for posting the video but then in a surprising move, slammed the show for not producing a superstar in eight series.
He took a swipe at the show for not allowing artists to share their music and it prevents them from gaining a true following after the show has ended.
“I took it down and made a mistake,” he said. “Yes there are contracts that stop them from (sharing their songs) and I take responsibility for doing that. But it’s been eight years and it’s not like we have a superstar yet.”
He added: “But why are people waiting a whole year to then put out music. By the time you’ve heard the song you’ve totally forgotten about The Voice.”
The winner of the show gets a deal with Polydor records.
With Jennifer Hudson reportedly up in the air about returning to the show next series, it has to be asked if this rule break will see Will not return next year either.
The Voice UK airs its live semifinals tonight at 8 pm on ITV with host Emma Willis.
