The future of Big Brother UK remains in doubt after Channel 5 boss Ben Frow said the show will not return “in its current form” if it is renewed next year.
According to Broadcast, Channel 5’s director of programmes Ben Frow confirmed talks between C5 and Endemol shine are still ongoing but did say the show would change if it does return in 2019.
Frow confirmed reports that C5 will be slashing the budget for Big Brother, saying the broadcaster would “not be spending the same amount of money” on the show if the current contract is renewed. He also went ahead to say that the show would not return “in its current form” for 2019.
It was recently reported by the Daily Star on Sunday that spinoff show Bit On The Side is ‘set to be axed’ and replaced by the classic show “Big Brother’s Little Brother” later this summer.
Big Brother has seen falling ratings for both the Celebrity and ‘civilian’ versions of the show recently. However, it is being reported that in the event C5 does axe the show Endemol is preparing contingency plans.
Big Brother returns to Channel 5 later this summer for one more civilian and Celebrity run.
