Channel 5 has axed The Bachelor UK after just one series, it has been confirmed.
The dating reality series is extremely popular in the US but failed to capture the hearts of UK viewers as it was given the axe after just nine episodes. The broadcaster confirmed the news in a statement to The Daily Star on Sunday.
“We can confirm that The Bachelor will not be returning for another series on Channel 5,” the broadcaster told the tabloid.
The reality dating show followed personal trainer Alex Marks as he searched for love, dating several women to find his one true love. The ladies would compete in challenges to win over Alex’s heart and get him to give them a rose.
The show was hosted by Mark Wright, who reportedly had hopes of becoming the next big telly presenter in the country but the ratings just weren’t good enough despite the popular TOWIE star fronting the series.
“Everyone had hoped that getting Mark to present it would guarantee big ratings, but that just didn’t happen,” a source told The Daily Star. “For the show to be axed isn’t a good sign for Mark. The Bachelor was the biggest presenting gig Mark had ever had on UK telly and it’s already been dropped.”
25-year-old Events coordinator Alicia Oates from Essex won the competition.
