Auditions for Season 13 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ continued on Tuesday night and one act, in particular, moved Simon Cowell so much, he sent them straight to the live shows.
The final act of the night was Michael Ketterer, a father of six and a pediatric mental health nurse, wanted to prove to his five adopted children that it is okay to go for your dreams. No matter how big they are.
“All our kids have come from pretty desperate situations, Ketterer said prior to his audition. Through the process of adoption, it has taught us so much about the father’s heart. He is not afraid of our brokenness. It doesn’t matter what we are or what we face, he is going to see us through to the very end.”
Ketterer sang his own version of the Bee Gees’ song ‘To Love Somebody’ and it left everyone standing on their feet and wiping away tears. Following his performance, judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Mel B all praised him.
“Thank you for gracing this stage. Thank you,” said Mel B.
But it was the head judge who had the biggest praise for the father of six.
“Mike, do you know what? When we find singers on these shows, is it about being technical? Or is it about being relevant, you know?” said Simon. “Sometimes, for me, it’s just about being real and a surprise. If I’m being honest with you, ’cause you were so nervous, I was concerned for you.”
“But I think sometimes, actions speak louder than words,” Simon continued, hitting the golden buzzer.
As the confetti rained down on the stage, Simon went up to meet Michael and his family, telling him: “You’re really special. I truly mean that.”
Michael joins host Tyra Banks’ Golden Buzzer act Zurcaroh as the second act straight into the live shows later this year.
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC in the US and on Netflix in the UK.
