Helen Wood has become the winner with the biggest outside odds in the history of the show.
Last night, during the Big Brother 2014 final Helen beat Ashleigh Coyle by a thin margin to clench the title of Big Brother 2014 winner.
In the run up to the final, Wood had odds of 33/1 to win, with some suggesting she could become a dark horse.
Only in the past 24 hours did her odds come down, but she was still as long as 3/1 to win ahead of the live show.
Helen’s win hasn’t only upset a lot of viewers, it’s left the bookies quite out of pocket too, hitting bookmakers Ladbrokes with a payout of over £100,000 while one loyal fan is rewarded with a windfall of £25,000 following a £1,000 bet struck in a shop in Manchester at 25/1.
However, as ex-housemate Matthew Davies said on Twitter, Helen shouldn’t think she’ll be making money from her win, with the bookies predicting odds of 20/1 that she goes straight into the Celebrity Big Brother house, and 5/1 she enters the I’m A Celebrity 2014 jungle and 50/1 she ends up on the Strictly dancefloor.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Ashleigh looked like a certainty for weeks but Helen has come through to upset the odds in style.
“Her loyal fans have been rewarded with plenty of hard cash too.”
