Former Glee star Kevin McHale was sent packing from The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday night, sparking outrage among show viewers.
The final seven remaining seven acts all performed for the judges and viewers at home. With no safe seat in play, who stayed and went home was all down to the voting public. Before the acts performed, American pop star Lizzo made her U.K. debut with he smash hit “Good As Hell”.
Once all the acts performed, host Dermot O’Leary returned to deliver the results. He revealed Max and Harvey, Jenny Ryan, Megan McKenna, V5, and Try Star were all safe and advanced to next week. This meant Kevin and Vinny Jones were the bottom two.
Both sang their hearts out for the judges in one last chance to prove why they should stay in the competition. Vinny spoke before the judge’s vote, asking them to let him go and keep Kevin in.
Louis Walsh voted to keep his act Kevin, while Nicole Scherzinger voted for her act Vinny. This left Simon Cowell as the deciding vote and his decision angered many viewers.
“I’m going to insist you stay in this competition,” Simon told Vinny. “I think you can win this.”
Simon then eliminated Kevin from the show, despite commenting earlier in the night that Kevin delivered his best performance so far.
Kevin’s elimination left viewers fuming, claiming Simon is desperate to keep the ratings up as they approach record lows.
