After months of speculation and petitions, it’s official: The bloodshed will continue in Lakewood.
MTV has renewed Scream for a third season – but it will likely look different when it returns next year.
The third season will consist of six episodes, down from 10 episodes in season one and 12 episodes in season two. It is not confirmed if season three will be the final installment of the horror series.
Viewing figures have never been solid for the show. The second season averaged just 377,000 viewers, down nearly half of the 750,00 average in the first season.
The new season once again will see new show runners in charge. Michael Gans and Richard Register are departing the series after serving as executive producers for the second season.
Since the announcement, there is speculation that the six episode season will serve as a wrap up for the series, although it has not been confirmed.
There is no word on if the cast will change or a start date for the third season. Rumors also suggest the series will morph into an anthology.
Scream returns for a third season in 2017 and will air a Halloween special next Tuesday at 9/8c on MTV.
