The global sensation known as The Masked Singer made its UK debut on Saturday as celebrities hide their identities behind some pretty interesting costumes to try and impress the judges and studio audience.
Saturday’s launch saw six masked celebrities take to the stage dressed as a Queen Bee, Duck, Unicorn, Butterfly, Chameleon and Hedgehog. They did their best to sway judges Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Davina McCall, and Ken Jeong.
Following all the performances, the studio audience voted for their favourite act. The Queen Bee, Unicorn, and Hedgehog all earned enough votes to advance to the next round of the competition. The Duck, Butterfly, and Chameleon were all in the bottom three.
The judges voted to save the Duck and Chameleon, meaning The Butterfly would be going home. Before the Butterfly flew off into the sunset, it was time to unmask the celebrity. It was revealed to be actress Patsy Palmer, best known for her role as Bianca Jackson on EastEnders.
“I loved it, the costume designers are so talented and I loved being a Butterfly,” Palmer said. “I love singing in general (not that I’m any good) but it’s an extremely uplifting thing to do. I love music, it’s a total passion of mine (I DJ) so I’m constantly playing music.”
“To be able to get on a stage that size was a dream too although I must say I was really nervous.”
The Masked Singer continues tomorrow at 8 pm on ITV.
